Lame.

I am sick. I don’t feel “sick” sick, it’s just a sore throat, but it’s terribly sore. I didn’t go to Trace Tuesday night because I wasn’t feeling quite up to it. I stopped talking for the last hour of work today because it hurt so much. And my glands are a little swollen. Lame. Something has been going around at work, but with everyone else it’s been a vicious cold – sneezing, coughing, snotty noses and all that. Me? Haven’t coughed one damn time at yet my throat hurts. Coworkers have suggested strep throat.
Lamer than lame. Jolly lame. Dog lame. Inexcusable. (Shout out to the Almost Live fans out there.)
So I got another issue of Wire with another CD. No, they don’t really come out that fast – when I subscribed I asked for an issue that was already out, since I didn’t think I’d find it in stores. So that’s why they’ve arrived so close to each other.

It sucks that likely I won’t be able to use my voice much tomorrow, as Thursday afternoon is when I have my vocal class. I will go, though, to at least get the handouts the teacher is likely to give, and because I want to talk to the cute girl in class that’s into improv.

I’m trying to grow the mustache back in after several years (3 or more) without it, but it’s not working right yet. It looks very very lame. There’s a patch of paler hairs on one side, so it looks like I shaved it crooked, even though I didn’t. Bleh.

Oh, and I got a call from Godaddy.com the other day. Apparently I’ve been on the old hosting plan for quite some time. I panicked for a moment wondering what they’ve changed that I’ll have to switch to. Nothing, the guy on the phone says, except – $3 cheaper a month, and 50 gigabytes of storage space.
Fuckin’ a.

Will wonders never cease?

I was at The Chicago Diner this evening, and a man walked in with a very long (maybe 4 inches on each side), thin, waxed handlebar mustache and a very thin braided rat tail. Skinny young kid (early 20′s) with glasses. I am going to assume he’s a renny or some sort of D&D dork, otherwise my worldview will just shatter.
I arrived home to see that my first copy of The Wire arrived today (yesterday it was just the CD’s I received). Excellent. I know now how I will be wasting my evening.

The Wire.

I recently subscribed to The Wire, and they sent me five cd’s. The Wire Tapper discs 1-4, and a compilation called Domino 06 – A Snapshot from the 2006 Domino 10 Day. Excellent stuff. I have loved the wire for a long time, ever since I bought the issue that came with The Wire Tapper 10 (a double cd that turned me onto Four Tet). There’s even more amazing stuff on these discs, from as far back as 1998 (that seems so long ago now, doesn’t it?). I anxiously await my first issue. It is the most un-pretentious music magazine I have ever come across, maybe aside from Paste. The reviews are fair and descriptive, and unlike Pitchfork, rarely vile and scathing even if they genuinely dislike something. I suppose the difference is these people are music lovers while Pitchfork is full of trendy hipsters.
I suggest you check out a copy if you ever see it.

The Incredible Weirdo has just gone through some great trouble to install this WordPress software on the server that hosts his website so he can have full control over his blog, something his LiveJournal does not allow him. This is also a test run of the software so that he may tweak it for rollout on the main electric brain reserve site. He isn’t making that a blog, but this software will make it very easy to update the content on it, post links to his music, et hoc genus omne.
W00t.

yet more music…

I’ve been working on a collaborative electronic music project that we (the IDM-Making list at Ampfea.org) have chosen to call an Exquisite Corpse. Of the first four we’ve done, I participated in three, and I’ve now helmed the fifth. The results are here – corpse.electricbrainreserve.com.

Also – I bought running shoes today. I went to a place called Fleet Feet and went through this whole fitting process where they put you in a ‘diagnostic shoe’, watch you run, make you try on some shoes, watch you run in them, etc. I bought a pair of Saucony Grid Hurricane 7′s – very nice, all synthetic, $120. Not bad, I think.

Must start putting these babies to good use.

So…

Who here (aside from dear Samantha) has been or is familiar with New York City? I’ll be visiting there March 9th-13th, wondering what is cool and is must see, needs to be checked out, et hoc genus omne. Bonus points for things very much not-touristy. Give me some pointers, I’ll endlessly be in your debt. I know I want to check out Teany (Moby’s vegetarian restaurant) and another veg place called Counter. And the MoMA. And… I don’t know what else.

Last week I went to a show…

I saw a hip-hop artist by the name of P.O.S. (a shitty acronym – no pun intended – for “Promise Of Skills”). It was an amazing show all around – he’s a talented lyricist and performer. I thought I’d share the first lines of the chorus to my favorite song of his, “Music for Shoplifting”:

This if for those who can’t pay the rent
Run of out toilet paper,
find the sunday paper -
wipe your ass with the president.

Woohoo!

I have finished another new track. As with the last one, a reworking of an old solo keyboard piece.

Tell me what you think of this.

Thanks.
